Agenda June 2011: Copa America in Argentina

The calendar hitting June today signified one thing and one thing only for the most passionate soccer fans on the planet: We’re now exactly one month away from the official start of Copa America Argentina 2011!!
Much like the FIFA World Cup, Copa America takes place every four years and is undeniably one of the most popular sporting events in the world. The Copa América (Spanish and Portuguese for "America Cup"), is an international association football competition contested by the men's national teams of the members of CONMEBOL, the sport's continental governing body.

Barcelona’s forward Lionel Messi and Carlos Tevez of Manchester City leads Argentina’s 26-man squad declared on Wednesday for next month’s Copa America. Carlos Tevez was included in the list even though he was complaining that he was not included in his country’s 4-2 friendly win against Paraguay last weekend.Four players of coach Sergio Batista’s team are based in Argentina, which is hosting the July 1-24 competition. Lionel Messi, fresh from the stint of Barcelona to Champions League victory, has his sights determined set on winning the event.

And Lionel Messi will be making steps to insure Argentina’s terrible run in the Copa America will change, a competition they have not won since 1993 in Ecuador.
